The Falcon2 is for cutting and engraving wood, acrylic, leather, paper, slate, anodized aluminum, and a few other materials after a test.

Should you get the Creality CR-Laser Falcon instead? If you already own an Ender-style 3D printer, the CR-Laser Falcon is a good way to learn without buying a separate frame. But it's a starter module, not a production engine. I've tried to run client deadlines on a small work area. It's painful. The bigger bed and integrated setup on the Falcon2 are what make batch jobs possible, and batch jobs are where the money shows up.

For engraving metal tumblers or marking tools, you'd want a fiber laser marking machine, not a welding machine. They solve different problems.

Counterintuitive: more power is not the business model

This next part goes against what every spec sheet suggests. My most profitable jobs are not the deep crystalline engraving on massive panels. They're the 10-minute keychains, the $6 coasters, the tiny plaques that people order dozens at a time. Speed and repeatability beat peak power. A 22W machine that can run all afternoon without babysitting is way more valuable than a 60W CO2 machine that eats tubes and needs a water chiller. I'm not saying industrial lasers are bad. I'm saying they're a different business.

So, is laser engraving a good business?

Honestly? Yes, if you treat the first three months as a paid training program. No, if you expect passive income from day one. The margins on custom engraved goods can be 60-80% once you're efficient. But that efficiency comes from process—file checks, material tests, pricing per piece, and knowing when to turn down a job.

This advice ends where industrial work starts. If your plan is high-volume metal marking or metal fabrication, skip the diode lasers and talk to a fiber laser supplier. If you're a gallery artist, the business math is different and the machine isn't the bottleneck. But for a small shop doing mixed material orders, a Creality Falcon2 22W laser engraver & cutter is a solid balance between price, work area, and capability. Just don't buy it first.
